New Delhi: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Monday lauded Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his efforts in ensuring peace along the LOC and development in the state. Abdullah, while speaking at the inauguration event of the on the sidelines Z-Morh tunnel in Sonamarg, also expressed gratitude toward Modi for holding free and fair Assembly electoions in the state last year.
Abdullah started his speech by paying tribute to seven workers who died during a terrorist attack during the construction work of the tunnel. He added that PM Modi’s presence at the inauguration of the project was a proof that nobody can disturb the peace in the state.

Development will bridge gaps between Delhi and Srinagar: Omar Abdullah
The J&K CM said that such development projects will go a long way in reducing the difference between J&K and Delhi.
“Prime Minister Sahib, your presence here today at the inauguration program of this tunnel is a testimony to the fact that those people who carry out these attacks, those who don’t want the progress of this country, those who don’t want to see peace and progress in Jammu and Kashmir, can never succeed. They will always have to face defeat here. We will always defeat them and send them back from here,” said Abdullah.
This tunnel will boost tourism in this part bringing winter tourism as a game changer. The tunnel will also strengthen and support our defence forces by reducing travel time to Ladakh, Zojila as well,” added Abdullah.
At the end of the speech Abdullah said people of J&K hope that PM Modi will soon visit the state.
PM Modi inaugurated Z-Morh tunnel in Sonamarg
Earlier, PM Modi inaugurated the strategically important Z-Morh tunnel in Sonamarg area of Jammu and Kashmir. The Rs 2,700 crore tunnel will make Sonamarg accessible round the year.
Union minister Nitin Gadkari, Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah were also present at the inauguration.
