Pune: An officer at the Pimpri Chinchwad municipal body in Pune bore the brunt of having more than two children which violated the two-child policy set by the Maharashtra Civil Services rules, leading to his sacking just a month before retirement.

Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) Commissioner Shekhar Singh issued an order on January 7, terminating the services of Srinivas Dangat, Assistant Commissioner of the PCMC’s Social Development Department.

Kept his third child a secret

On Wednesday, Dangat said that he had never concealed information about his third child and announced his intention to appeal the dismissal with the appropriate authority.

The official was found guilty of violating the two-child rule of the Maharashtra Civil Services (Declaration of Small Family) Rules, 2005, the order said.

According to PCMC officials, an internal inquiry was initiated against Srinivas Dangat following a complaint. The inquiry revealed that when Dangat was appointed as an administrative officer in 2013, he was required to submit an affidavit under the Maharashtra Civil Services (Declaration of Small Family) Rules, 2005. However, despite multiple reminders, he failed to provide the affidavit, prompting the civic body to take action, as stated in the termination order.

Dangat began his career with PCMC as a clerk in 1989. After clearing an exam, he was promoted to the position of administrative officer in 2013 and subsequently elevated to the rank of assistant commissioner.

Denying the allegations, Dangat claimed that he had informed the civic body about the birth of his third child in 2011.

“I informed the municipal corporation about the birth of my third child in 2011. Records are available with PCMC. I never concealed the information about the third child. Moreover, the rule regarding the two-child norm became effective in 2006. My two children were born before 2005,” Dangat told PTI.

Dangat stated that he had submitted the necessary evidence to the inquiry committee in 2021.

“Now, after four years, they have terminated my service just as I am set to retire in February this year. I will appeal this decision before the PCMC commissioner and seek justice from the appropriate authority,” he said.
