Prayagraj Mahakumbh 2025: Bundelkhand’s Jal Sahelis to share their impactful stories

New Delhi: Spiritualism and traditional fervour will essentially mark Prayagraj Mahakumbh. However, the world’s biggest religious congregation will also see promotion and dissemination of important social and environmental messages. It will serve as a platform to sensitise the people about a host of such issues.

A number of social organisations, NGOs, and institutions dedicated to environmental conservation will gather at the Mahakumb. And as part of the social awareness initiatives, the Jal Sahelis of Bundelkhand, known for their incredible contributions to water conservation, will join the event after the Makar Sankranti snan. They will share their experiences and inspire others with their impactful journey.

In his Mann Ki Baat address, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had lauded the efforts of Jal Sahelis working in groups for water conservation. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has also acknowledged and honoured the Jal Sahelis for their remarkable contributions to water conservation.

The Jal Sahelis have been deeply involved in water conservation and awareness initiatives in various districts of Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh, particularly in the Bundelkhand region. During the Mahakumbh, they will participate in a discussion on water conservation, sharing their experiences, and gaining valuable insights into similar efforts being carried out across the country.

Special programme for water conservation workers, groups

Dr Sanjay Singh, National Convener of the ‘Jal Jan Jodo Abhiyan,’ said that after the Makar Sankranti snan, a special programme will be held at Mahakumbh for water conservation workers and organisations. The event will include discussions and the sharing of experiences by groups and individuals involved in various aspects of water conservation.

The Mahakumbh Mela will continue until February 26 at the Triveni Sangam, the sacred confluence of the Ganga, Yamuna, and Saraswati rivers. The Mela will take place during Siddhi Yoga, a special time period in Hindu tradition, on January 29.
