New Delhi: The Centre has allayed fears over the Human Metapneumovirus (HMPV) cases and said there is no need to panic. So far, two cases have been reported from Ahmedabad in Gujarat and Bengaluru in Karnataka. Both the cases have been detected in the babies and one of them has been discharged.

Union Health Minister JP Nadda has also said that this is not a new virus and there is nothing to worry about it. He said World Health Organisation (WHO) will soon share a report on the virus update.

With the fears of outbreak of the virus, netizens have started drawing parallels with the COVID lockdown which went on for months starting March 2020.

Thousands of people died in the COVID-19 pandemic in India as well as globally. The first known case of COVID-19 was reported in China in November 2019 in Wuhan. In India, the first COVID-19 case was reported from Kerala in India in January 2020. Worries over HMPV virus started after reports of virus outbreak in China.
