Bidhuri, who is contesting against Delhi Chief Minister Atishi from the seat, said he would make the roads of the constituency as smooth as Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra’s cheeks.

Congress slams BJP

Congress spokesperson Supriya Shrinate strongly condemned Bidhuri’s remarks, calling them a reflection of his “ugly mindset.” In a post on X, Shrinate accused BJP of being anti-women and demanded an apology.

“Ramesh Bidhuri’s statement regarding Priyanka Gandhi is not only shameful but also shows his disgusting mentality towards women. This comes from the same person who used abusive language against a fellow MP in Parliament and faced no punishment. Will the women leaders of BJP, the Women Development Minister, J.P. Nadda ji, or the Prime Minister speak up about this?” Shrinate wrote.

Bidhuri defends his remark

In response to the backlash, Ramesh Bidhuri referred to a past comment by Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Lalu Prasad Yadav, who had made a similar comparison involving BJP leader and actor Hema Malini.

“If Congress finds my statement offensive, then why did they remain silent about Lalu Yadav’s statement regarding Hema ji, a renowned actress who has brought glory to India? If Lalu’s statement was wrong, so is this one,” Bidhuri told India Today.

Delhi assembly polls: BJP’s first list of candidates out

The controversy comes as BJP announced its first list of 29 candidates for the upcoming Delhi assembly elections.

Among the key names, former MP Parvesh Verma has been fielded against AAP supremo and former chief minister Arvind Kejriwal from New Delhi seat. Ramesh Bidhuri is contesting from Kalkaji against Delhi Chief Minister Atishi.
