‘People want us to solve problems, but ignore…’: MNS chief Raj Thackrey

New Delhi: In his New Year message on Wednesday, Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray said the people of Maharashtra want his party to resolve issues, but ignore it while voting in the election.

The MNS chief pointed out that notwithstanding the changes in Mumbai over the past 25 years, the Marathi people continue to feel “insecure” about the lack of job opportunities. “Young people are grappling to find work, while job opportunities are being offered to those coming from outside the state,” Thackeray claimed.

‘The unemployed do not have a caste’

In a post on X in Marathi, he said: “The unemployed do not have a caste, but they are made to feel divided by caste, and this sparks conflicts between communities. The lives of all workers, from farmers to the poor, are being ruined by inflation. And while facing these issues and every other problem, people remember the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena, but forget the party at the time of voting.” He added that he was still mulling over what exactly happened in the assembly elections and would speak about it in detail soon.

The party’s label as a “regional party” and its railway engine symbol are under scanner following its failure to secure a single constituency in the recent assembly elections. As many as 125 candidates were fielded by MNS in the recent state election. The party couldn’t win any seats, securing only 1.55% of the vote share. Thackeray’s son Amit had a dismal debut, finishing third in the Mahim assembly constituency. Thackeray described the results as “unbelievable”.
