Dehradun: The New Year 2025 is set to see the beginning of electrification works of 43 posts of Indo Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) in the bordering districts of Pithoragarh, Uttarkashi, and Chamoli. These three districts share boundaries with China and Nepal in the hill state. The tender, which Uttarakhand Power Corporation Limited (UPCL) has already floated for the electrification works of 43 ITBP posts in the three hill districts, is in process.

Plan to developing a network for power supply

The border outposts and villages, which are in the bordering areas, are still dependent on the solar lights, besides chimneys. The government has made a comprehensive plan for developing the network of power supply in these parts. Apart from power lines, poles and transformers, feeders will also be set up.

Strategically important parts

Most of the areas, which are close to Indo-Nepal and Indo-China borders, have not only difficult geographical conditions, but are also snow capped. Strategically, these parts are very significant. A project has been prepared by the UPCL to link the border outposts.

After the road network, focus is on power supply

Due to the strategic importance of the border outposts, the road networks have been developed. Now, the focus is on the development of networks of power supply to these areas. Under the plan, the power will be supplied to the border posts from the power sub-stations of Uttarkashi, Dharchula, and Champawat after developing a network of power lines and poles.
