Congress calls AAP alliance a mistake, accuses Kejriwal of abandoning anti-corruption

New Delhi: The INDIA bloc is imploding in Delhi with key constituents Congress and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) going in different directions with no possibility of any alliance left. AAP has already announced candidates for all seats in Delhi with Congress also pitting Sandeep Dikshit, son of former Delhi CM Sheila Dikshit, against Arvind Kejriwal. The party is also planning to field Alka Lamba against chief minister Atishi.

Now, senior Congress leader Ajay Maken has called the alliance between the parties for Lok Sabha polls in Delhi a “mistake”. The Congress-AAP alliance couldn’t win any of the seven seats in Delhi. With assembly elections approaching, Congress has intensified its attack against the AAP accusing the Delhi government of failing on major promises. It has also labelled Arvind Kejriwal as “Farziwal”, according to a PTI report.

‘मौक़ा मौक़ा हर बार धोखा’

आज दिल्ली प्रदेश कांग्रेस कार्यालय पर भाजपा और AAP के द्वारा 10 वर्षों में दिल्ली के ख़िलाफ़ किए गए अन्याय को उजागर करने वाली ‘मौक़ा मौक़ा हर बार धोखा’ पुस्तिका जारी की गई।

Congress’s ‘Mauka Mauka, Har Baar Dhoka’ campaign against AAP

At a press conference, Ajay Maken unveiled a 12-point “white paper” titled “Mauka Mauka, Har Baar Dhoka”, criticising AAP’s governance. Maken accused Kejriwal of abandoning the anti-corruption agenda that brought him to power during the Janlokpal agitation. “If there is one word to describe Arvind Kejriwal, it is Farziwal,” Maken said. He further attacked the former CM of not establishing the Janlokpal in Delhi adding that AAP holds full power in Punjab but still it was not implemented there as well.

“If the Lieutenant Governor is stopping you in Delhi, what’s preventing you from introducing Janlokpal in Punjab? Who is stopping you there? This is just an excuse. The party was formed in the name of Janlokpal a decade ago, but now it has forgotten its core promise,” Maken said.

Weakening of Congress in Delhi due to AAP alliance

Maken also attributed the weakening of Congress in Delhi to its past support for AAP. “The plight of Delhi today and the weakening of the Congress here stem from the 40 days we supported AAP in 2013. Forming the alliance during the Lok Sabha polls was another mistake that needs to be rectified,” he said, adding this to be his personal opinion.

Congress on Tuesday released its second list of 26 candidates for the assembly elections, which included Farhan Suri, who will face AAP’s Manish Sisodia in the Jangpura constituency. Earlier, Congress had announced its first list of 21 candidates.

The white paper released by the Congress targeted both AAP and the BJP, accusing both the parties of unkept promises and mismanagement in areas such as pollution, civic facilities, and law and order. Maken also criticised Kejriwal’s promise to transform Delhi into a global city, saying, “Instead of becoming like London, Delhi has become number one in pollution.”
