‘There is a Krish koop’: ASI surveys Kalki Vishnu temple in UP’s Sambhal

Sambhal: A day after the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) conducted a survey in the recently discovered temple in Uttar Pradesh’s Sambhal district, another survey was conducted at the district’s ‘Kalki Vishnu’ temple on Saturday. Mahendra Prasad Sharma, the priest of Kalki Vishnu temple, pointed out that while it was good that the ASI team visited the place, there is a ‘Krish koop’ (well) also mentioned in ‘Skanda Purana’.

“There is a ‘krish koop’ here. It is not closed but there is no water in it. This well is mentioned in the ‘Skanda Purana’ along with all pilgrimage sites of Sambhal. This well is on the temple premises, inside the old boundary,” news agency PTI quoted him. Sharing details, Vandana Mishra, Sambhal Sub-Divisional Magistrate, the team that visited the site stayed there for 15 minutes. They also visited the site to study the age of the ancient well, which is located at the site.

ASI team surveyed Shri Kartik Mahadev temple earlier this week

Earlier on Friday, a four-member ASI team surveyed Shri Kartik Mahadev temple, five pilgrimage sites and 19 ‘koops’, which were discovered recently. The temple was was reopened earlier this month after the authorities found a covered structure during an anti-encroachment drive. An idol of Lord Hanuman and a Shivling was found in the temple that remained locked since 1978.

The Supreme Court had issued a directive on December 12 asking courts across the country not to accept new lawsuits and coming out with any rulings in cases related to the reclamation of religious structures. “As the matter is sub-judice in this court, we deem it appropriate that no fresh suit would be registered and proceedings are undertaken till further orders of this court,” the CJI-led bench had said.
