Agartala: With insurgency ending in North-East part of the country, the time of has come for the police to change their approach , so that people are ensured with immediate justice, Union Home Minister Amit Shah said in Agartala on Saturday.

Emphasising that the rapid development is taking place in the region, the minister observed the region has to be brought closure to ‘Shreshta Bharat’. The minister also noted that as many as 20 peace agreements were signed since PM Modi-led NDA came to power in 2014.

“The police fought an insurgency in the northeast for the past four decades. As insurgency has now ended, we need to change the approach of the force to ensure people get justice within three years of lodging FIRs,” news agency PTI quoted the minister as saying.

The minister further added that due to the agreement signed in last ten years, close to 9,000 militants have surrendered in the region. “As times have changed now, the police must ensure that people get justice within three years of filing an FIR and also see that people do not face any kind of difficulty”. Governors, Chief Ministers, and senior officials of all the eight Northeast states, including North Eastern Region Development Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia, attended the inauguration program of NEC.

‘Central government is focusing on organic farming’

The Home Minister said that the Centre has spent Rs 81,000 crore for rail connectivity and Rs 41,000 crore for road network in the Northeast region. He observed that while connectivity is no longer a problem in the region, the focus on organic farming in the region. The Centre has already formed National Organic Corporation Limited (NOCL) to promote this sector, the minister added.
