Kolkata: The parents of the deceased on-duty woman doctor, who was raped and murdered at the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital on August 9, moved the Calcutta High Court on Thursday (December 19) seeking a fresh investigation into the case.

The parents of the victim has sought for a direction for a fresh investigation into the rape and murder of their daughter, expressing a lack of confidence in the ongoing investigation being conducted by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

Earlier, the parents of the victim had expressed their disappointment at former RG Kar Medical College and Hospital principal Sandip Ghosh and former officer-in-charge of Tala police station Abhijit Mondal being granted bail in the case due to non-filing of chargesheet within the mandatory 90-day period.

Sealdah court on December 13 granted bail to Ghosh, Mondal

A Sealdah court had on December 13 granted bail to Ghosh and Mondal in a case in which they were arrested for alleged tampering of evidence and delay in filing of First Information Report (FIR) respectively in the rape and murder case of the on-duty woman doctor on August 9.

High Court asked victim’s parents’ lawyer to add CBI as a party in their petition

Justice Tirthankar Ghosh on Thursday while hearing the plea filed by the parents of the victim, asked their counsel to add the investigating agency CBI as a party in the petition and mention the matter again before the court on Monday, news agency PTI reported.

The CBI had taken over the investigation of the case from the Kolkata Police on the orders of the High Court.

Trial against prime accused Sanjay Roy is currently going on before a Sealdah court

The trial against prime accused in the case, Sanjay Roy, is currently in progress before a Sealdah court and the Supreme Court, which had taken the suo motu cognisance of the case of the rape and murder of the on-duty woman doctor, was informed on on December 10 that 43 prosecution witnesses in the case has been examined before the trial court so far and the trial is likely to be concluded soon. The top court had noted in its order that the trial in the case is likely to be concluded within one month.
