Patna: Amid ongoing protests in Patna over the demand to abolish normalisation in the Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) exams, prominent coaching operator Khan Sir and student leader Dilip were briefly detained by the police on Friday evening. While Khan Sir was released within an hour, tensions continued to escalate at the protest site in Gardanibagh.

Earlier in the day, Khan Sir joined the protesting candidates after police resorted to lathicharge, which led to a confrontation that lasted from 10 am to 2 pm. Students gathered in Gardanibagh, where they were supported by several prominent figures, including Khan Sir and Guru Rehman, both well-known educators in the capital.

Khan Sir calls for peaceful protest

Khan Sir, addressing the protesters, said that there is a need to keep the agitation peaceful and free from external interference. “No anti-social elements or mafias should be allowed to hijack this fight. We are here to demand justice and we will not leave until normalisation is scrapped,” he said.

Reports suggest that the Gardanibagh police detained Khan Sir and Dilip later in the evening, with officials hinting at plans to clear the protest site soon. This move sparked fresh outrage among the demonstrators. Meanwhile, Leader of Opposition Tejashwi Yadav criticised the Nitish Kumar government, saying, “Students will study and fight for their rights. How can the government take their votes and then resort to lathicharge? This is unacceptable.”
