Uttarakhand ITDA develops ‘Near Disaster Recovery’ site for seamless data application

Dehradun: Near Disaster Recovery (Near DR) site has started working in the Data Centre on the premises of the state secretariat. Following the cyberattack faced by the state data centre more than a month back, Information Technology Development Agency (ITDA) realized the need for the Near DR site in the state.

Nitesh Jha, who is secretary, IT and urban development department, the main objective behind this initiative is to ensure that the critical applications and services of the Data Centre continue to run smoothly without any interruption during any technical problem or disaster.

Terming it as an excellent example of innovation in the It sector, the secretary Jha appreciated this work. He hoped that this system will be helpful in recovering and restoring critical application services in the shortest possible time during any disaster or technical problem in the future.

This initiative is also important in view of the security of important web applications and data of the state government after the recent cyberattack.

No additional cost incurred in development of the site

According to Nitika Khandelwal, the director, ITDA, all the important applications of the Data Centre will be available in the Near Disaster Recovery (Near DR) site, for 6 months. ITDA has prepared this setup by using the resources available in the SWAN POP located in the state secretariat. There is no additional cost incurred on it, according to a press release. The cost of the development of such a site is estimated to be around Rs 20 crore in the market.

A team completed this work

A team headed by Shri Arun Sharma, Director, NIC, which included Manveer Joshi (AGM, IT & e-Governance, DSCL), Ram (Project Manager, State Data Centre), Nitish Saini (Database Expert), Vikas (Network Expert), and Girish (Backup Expert) played its role in the completion of this work.

In the first week of October this year, the state data centre faced a cyberattack badly affecting the government websites.
