Mumbai: BJP legislature party leader Devendra Fadnavis will be sworn in as the Chief Minister of Maharashtra on Thursday evening at a grand ceremony attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
NCP chief Ajit Pawar and Shiv Sena leader Eknath Shinde are also expected to take the oath as Deputy Chief Ministers, according to sources.
This will mark the third time Fadnavis, 54, an MLA from Nagpur, assumes the role of Maharashtra’s Chief Minister. The swearing-in ceremony will take place at Azad Maidan in south Mumbai, where extensive security arrangements have been made for the event.
The formation of the government under Devendra Fadnavis follows two weeks of intense negotiations after the 20 November state assembly polls, with the results announced on 23 November. Fadnavis emerged as the leading candidate for the chief ministerial post after the BJP’s strong performance, winning 132 seats in the 288-member assembly.
