Dehradun: Uttarakhand, which continues to face the disasters frequently, has started focusing on setting up the Emergency Trauma Care Network. Since Uttarakhand is a hill state, the Emergency Trauma Care Network (ETCN) is its basic requirement.

Late on Tuesday evening, the State Health System Resource Centre, Uttarakhand, discussed various ways to expand the ETCN across the state at a meeting held in the auditorium of the state’s National Health Mission Uttarakhand, for this purpose.

Ideas were shared to strengthen the trauma care networks

At the meeting, ideas were shared to establish and strengthen the trauma care network across the state with the coordination with the State Health Resource Centre, Uttarakhand, All India Institute of Medical Sciences Rishikesh, and the Hemwati Nandan Bahuguna Medical Education University. These institutes are expected to provide immediate and better treatment to seriously injured patients in emergency situations. Presentations were also given in this regard.

State requires technical intervention to expand trauma care networks

Swati S Bhadoria, the executive director of the State Health Resource Centres as well as the mission director of the National Health Mission, Uttarakhand, gave emphasis on the importance of trauma care networks in a state like Uttarakhand. She underlined the need for technical intervention to provide better treatment to save the life of a common man in an emergency.

Special trauma training for the medical staff

The maps of medical centres will be provided to 108. She directed the officers to sensitize the special trauma training and to train the paramedics staff in trauma care. She also emphasized on carrying out mapping of health facilities. She asked them to develop an App to alert the medical staff of the health centres concerned in advance about the requirements of a person in an emergency.

Medical training for the community health workers

At the meeting, Dr. Madan Lal Brahma Bhatt, Vice Chancellor, HNB Medical Education University, suggested the need for a basic medical training field for community health workers, besides those working on the ground level.

Dr Madhur Uniyal, Associate Professor, Trauma Department, AIIMS, shared the future strategy for the Trauma Care Network and gave emphasis on providing support to SHSRC, Uttarakhand, in this regard through AIIMS.
