Dehradun: Under its plan to ensure the people’s participation to control the incidents of forest fire across the state, Uttarakhand Forest Department has decided to connect the Gram Pradhans, chiefs of Mahila Mangal Dal (MMD) as well as Yuvak Mangal Dal (YMD) of the villages with the department’s fire alert system in 12 forest divisions.

Gram Pradhans, Chiefs of MMD and YMD will receive fire alerts through their mobile phones. The forest department hopes that they will help the fire fighting team at the incident sites.

Forest minister asked the officials to ensure people’s participation to control forest fire incidents

Earlier, forest minister Subodh Uniyal had asked the forest department officials to ensure full participation of people in controlling the forest fire incidents across the state. Uniyal had recently held a meeting with his department’s officials to review the fire safety measures.

The forest department linked Gram Pradhans, village chiefs of MMD and YMD with forest fire alert system  

Following the minister Uniyal’s instructions regarding people’s participation in controlling forest fire incidents, the forest department decided to connect Gram Pradhans, chiefs of MMD and YMD with the fire alert system in 12 forest divisions in the first phase. In its first phase, the department has given special focus on the areas which are also referred to as high-risk zones.

The Gram Pradhans, and chiefs of MMD and YMD will be alerted about forest fires along with the forest department personnel. According to data, 11932 persons, including the personnel of the forest department, have been linked with the forest fire alert system in the areas which are known as sensitive zones from the viewpoint of forest fire incidents.

Forest department launched campaign to make people aware about forest fire

The department has also launched a campaign to make people aware about the forest fire in the villages in the sensitive 12 forest divisions. In Uttarakhand, the forest divisions such as Almora, Bageshwar, Champawat, Haldwani, Garhwal, Uttarkashi, Narendranagar, Badrinath, Chakarata, and Pauri are sensitive from the view of forest fire incidents. Uttarakhand faces heavy loss due to the incidents of forest fires every year.
