Mehbooba lamented the clashes between the cops and protesters, which took place over the Sambhal mosque survey, and dubbed them as “unfortunate”, while expressing concern over the recent claims being made on mosques and temples. The clashes claimed the lives of four people and left dozens, including policemen and officials, injured. The violence broke out hours after the survey was carried out.

Mehbooba was quoted as saying by ANI: “I am afraid that the situation which was during 1947, we are being taken towards that direction. When the youth talk of jobs, they don’t get it. The PDP chief added that in Bangladesh, Hindus are being subjected to atrocities. “If atrocities will be committed on minorities in India too, then what is the difference between India and Bangladesh?… I don’t find any difference between India and Bangladesh.”

Speaking about the claim being made about Ajmer Sharif Dargah, she pointed out, “The Ajmer Sharif Dargah, where people of all religions come to offer their prayers, is a prime example of brotherhood. Now, efforts are being made to excavate it in search of a temple.”
