Chennai: Amid adverse weather conditions due to Cyclone Fengal, an IndiGo Flight Airbus A320 experienced a close call at the Chennai airport. The video of the incident has gone viral. The video showed that just when the flight was about to land at the airport, and its wheels were inches away from the ground, the flight aborted the landing and took -off again.

Sharing the video on X, an account related to aviation wrote, Challenging conditions at Chennai International airport as cyclone Fengal makes landfall near Puducherry and is likely to cross the Tamil Nadu coasts in the next three to four hours.”

IndiGo’s response on the incident

Responding to Saturday’s incident, IndiGo said that the cockpit crew of the flight that was coming from Mumbai executed a “go-around”, as per the established safety protocols. “This is a standard and safe maneuver, and our pilots are extensively trained to handle such situations with the utmost professionalism. A go-around is performed when a safe landing cannot be achieved, as was the case with this flight,” a spokesperson of the airline was quoted as saying by news agency ANI.

Notably, normal life has been affected in Tamil Nadu and nearby states due to the cyclone. Earlier, the authorities at the Chennai airport issued an operation suspension notice. It wrote, “Following consultations with AAI Headquarters and considering feedback from stakeholders, it has been decided to extend the closure of operations through a NOTAM (Notice to Airmen) until 0400 IST on 1st December 2024. We recommend passengers check with their respective airlines regarding their flights.” The video has attracted over 1 lakh views.

Chennai airport resumed services

While the incident occurred on Saturday evening, the Chennai airport resumed services on Sunday. Several airlines, including IndiGo, too resumed their flights. However, some flyers complained of delayed and cancelled flights.
