Dehradun: Uttarakhand’s brand ‘House of Himalayas’ has remained successful in providing an outlet for local products and achieved Rs 34.52 lakhs sales since it was launched by prime minister Narendra Modi in the month of December last year.

Uttarakhand’s local products have found a market through the House of Himalayas brand. These products are also available on the e-commerce platform Amazon. The brand markets pure honey from mountain forests, grains like Mandua, Jhangora, Gahath, and Rajma cultivated in the hills, as well as woolen clothes and handicrafts. Under this umbrella brand, products made from aroma industry like perfumes are also gaining popularity in market.

House of Himalayas is going to be a game changer in terms of rural economy

Secretary of Rural Development Radhika Jha stated that with over sixty percent of Uttarakhand’s population residing in rural areas, the House of Himalayas initiative is aimed to be a game changer for the rural economy. The scheme aims to boost business over three years and elevate five lakh women to the status of Lakhpati Didi by increasing their annual income to over one lakh. Additionally, the scheme targets a 50 to 75 percent increase in the income of farmers and rural women.

The brand includes 35 products in eight categories

The House of Himalayas brand now includes 35 products across eight categories, such as biscuits made from coarse grains like Rajma from Munsiyari, Chakrata and Harshil, Amaranth, Toor dal, red rice, Jhangora, Gahath, kale bhatt, tea, oil, and handicrafts. Moreover, special gift packs were also prepared for Diwali by the House of Himalayas.

Village economy is crucial for overall development

According to Uttarakhand chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, “Strengthening the village economy is crucial for the overall development of the state. The House of Himalayas brand is instrumental in achieving this, with traditional products from Uttarakhand now reaching markets both domestically and internationally. The demand for the brand is also being boosted through government procurement.”
