Mumbai: Almost 48 hours after the Mahayuti’s historic win in the Maharashtra Assembly polls, the alliance has not yet announced who would be the next chief minister of the state. The ruling alliance in the state returned to power after winning 230 seats while the MVA won 46 seats in the elections.
With the BJP winning 132 seats, there are calls within the party to make Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis the next chief minister of Maharashtra. On the other hand number of Shiv Sena leaders are calling for Eknath Shinde to be retained as the state CM. The confusion over the decision on the next CM has resulted in a delay in announcing the name for the top post in the state, news agency PTI, reported on Monday.

As per the news agency, all three Mahayuti leaders – Fadnavis, Shinde, and NCP leader Ajit Pawar are in Delhi on Monday to attend the marriage reception of Lok Sabha Speaker OP Birla’s daughter. During their visit to the national capital, the three leaders may also meet senior BJP leaders and sort out the issue.
On Saturday, Fadnavis denied reports of a tussle within the Mahyuti alliance regarding the CM post and said that the same would be sorted out between the alliance partners without any issue. He had earlier served as the Chief Minister of Maharashtra between 2014 to 2019 in alliance with the then-undivided Shiv Sena. Fadnavis previously served as chief minister in 2014, completing a full five-year term while in coalition with the then undivided Shiv Sena.
