New Delhi: A city court will decide on December 4 on whether to take cognisance of a Chargesheet filed by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in the drowning of three civil services aspirants in the basement of a coaching centre in Old Rajinder Nagar in July this year.

The central agency had recently filed the chargesheet in the case against six persons, including coaching centre CEO Abhishek Gupta and its coordinator Deshpal Singh, before a trial court.

The CBI has urged the trial court to take cognisance of the chargesheet, submitting that there was enough evidence to prosecute the accused persons.

The defence counsel, however, opposed the submissions made by the CBI counsel, claiming that the chargesheet filed by the central agency was incomplete.

Principal District and Sessions Judge Anju Bajaj Chandna on Monday deferred the order on whether to take cognisance of the chargesheet for a week.

The judge reserved the order on the issue of whether to take cognisance of the chargesheet after hearing the submissions made by the counsel representing the CBI urging the court to take cognisance of the chargesheet, news agency PTI reported.

Three students drowned in coaching centre basement on July 27

Three civil services aspirants – Shreya Yadav, Tanya Soni and Nevin Dalwin – lost their lives after they drowned in the basement of the coaching centre – Rau’s IAS Study Circle – in Old Rajendra Nagar on July 27 after the basement of the coaching centre was flooded following rain in the evening of July 27.

Delhi High Court on August 2 transferred probe from Delhi Police to CBI

The Delhi High Court, while hearing a plea seeking a high-level committee to investigate the deaths of three civil service aspirants, had on August 2 transferred the probe into the matter from the Delhi Police to the CBI. It had also directed the Central Vigilance Commission (CVC) to nominate a senior officer to oversee the probe carried out by the CBI and ensure that the investigation is complete in a time bound manner.
