New Delhi: Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader and deputy CM of Maharashtra Ajit Pawar on Monday took a swipe at his nephew Rohit Pawar after he retained and won his seat from the opposition alliance as a part of the NCP-Sharad Pawar faction.
As they came face to face while they were visiting the death anniversary memorial of the first Maharashtra CM, YB Chavan, Ajit quipped, “Come, take my blessings. You barely won and managed to hold onto your seat. Had I taken out a rally (in Karjat Jamkhed), imagine what would have happened.” As Ajit made this remark, Rohit bent and touched his feet.
Reacting to Ajit’s comments, Rohit said if he (his uncle) had held a rally in his constituency, things could have been different. “He was busy in Baramati, that is why he could not come to Karjat Jamkhed. This was his decision. I have congratulated him on his victory.”
About touching the feet of uncle Ajit, Rohit said that touching the feet of elders is in our culture. “It is our tradition. He is my uncle. He also helped me in the 2019 elections. He is like my father.”
Independent candidate made the contest interesting
In the Maharashtra assembly elections, the contest turned very interesting due to an independent candidate on the Karjat Jamkhed seat. Rohit won from this seat but his margin of victory was only 1,243 votes. Rohit got 127676 votes. On this seat, Rohit faced a tough competition from BJP leader Ramshankar Shinde, who got 126433 votes. The contest became exciting due to independent candidate Rohit Chandrakant Pawar who came third. Due to independent candidate Rohit Chandrakant, the margin of victory of NCP (SP) Rohit Pawar was reduced.
At the time of counting of votes, it was revealed that Rohit Pawar had lost by 300 votes due to some technical mistake. After recounting, Rohit Pawar won by 1243 votes.
Rohit Pawar said he congratulated the deputy Chief Minister for his strong show in the recent elections. The Ajit Pawar-NCP bagged 41 seats, while the NCP (SP) headed by Sharad Pawar could secure only 10 seats. Ajit Pawar retained his Baramati seat by defeating NCP (SP) candidate Yugendra Pawar, who is also his nephew, by a margin of over one lakh votes.
