Jharkhand polls: 38 constituencies to go on polls in second phase; CM Soren in fray

Ranchi: The second phase of Jharkhand Assembly Elections is all set to be held on Wednesday. While a total of 38 seats out of 81 will go to polls, the results will be announced on November 23, along with that of Maharashtra. The second phase of the Jharkhand elections will decide the fate of over 500 candidates who are in the fray. . The first phase of the polls was held on November 13.

Several important candidates are in the fray in the second phase of polls including Chief Minister Hemant Soren, his wife Kalpana Soren (both JMM), BJP leader and former state chief minister Babulal Marandi, among other candidates. While polling in all constituencies will begin at 7 AM, it will end at 5 PM, except in some constituencies where polling will end at 4 PM.

A total of 1.23 crore voters are expected to cast their votes on Wednesday. Among them include 60.79 lakh women and 147 third-gender voters. There are 528 candidates in the fray. Among them, 472 candidates are men, 55 are women and a third-gender person

According to the Election Commission, all preparations for voting have been completed. It also said that polling personnel for all the booths have also been despatched. Since the last several dates, the state witnessed campaigns by several top leaders of the NDA and INDIA bloc including PM Narendra Modi, other Home Minister Amit Shah, BJP President JP Nadda, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, senior Congress leader and Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi among others.

43 constituencies went to polls in the first phase

Earlier on June 13, the first phase of Jharkhand polls saw a 64.86 percent turnout till 5 PM. A total of 43 constituencies went to polls. While there were 683 candidates in the fray, prominent candidates included former Chief Minister Champai Soren (who left JMM and joined BJP recently), and former MP Geeta Koda among others.
