RG Kar rape-murder trial: Two more witnesses examined before Kolkata court

Kolkata: Two more witnesses were examined on Tuesday (November 19) before the trial court in Sealdah in in the case of rape and murder of an on-duty woman doctor at the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital on August 9.

The trial proceedings of the case, which is being held in-camera and on day-to-day basis, began on November 12.

Sanjay Roy, who is the prime accused in the rape and murder of the 31-year-old on-duty woman doctor, was produced before the court of additional district and sessions judge Anirban Das under heavy police arrangements for the sixth day, news agency PTI reported.

A total of 14 witnesses have been examined in the case till Tuesday

With two witnesses being examined before the court on Tuesday, the total number of witnesses examined so far in the case has reached to 14. A total of nine witnesses, including senior and junior doctors, were examined before the court in the case last week.

Sealdah trial court had on November 4 framed charges against Sanjay Roy

The Sealdah court had framed charges against prime accused Roy, who was arrested in the case the following day of the incident on August 10 by the Kolkata Police, on November 4. He has been booked in the case under section 64 of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS) Section 66 (which pertains to punishment for causing death or resulting in a persistent vegetative state) and 103 (punishment for murder).

CBI earlier filed a chargesheet against Sanjay Roy

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), which took over the investigation of the woman doctor’s rape and murder case from the Kolkata Police on the orders of the Calcutta High Court, had earlier filed a chargesheet before the Sealdah court against Roy. The central investigating agency has relied on various oral and documentary evidence and forensic and scientific reports to establish that Roy was the sole perpetrator of rape and murder of the woman doctor at the the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital’s seminar room on August 9.
