Amit Shah cancels Maharashtra rallies

Union Home Minister Amit Shah postponed his Maharashtra rallies to assess the state’s security. He will hold high-level discussions with senior officials today. Violence erupted on Saturday in Imphal Valley, with mobs attacking MLAs’ homes after the discovery of bodies of women and children.

On Sunday, Shah directed immediate measures to restore order and the MHA promising strict action against violence. Armed clashes between Meitei and Kuki-Zo communities continue to destabilise the state. BJP MLAs will meet Chief Minister N Biren Singh as the NPP withdraws support, citing governance failures. Imphal remains under curfew with internet bans in several districts.

NIA takes charge of three cases

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has taken over three key cases related to recent violence in Manipur, following a Ministry of Home Affairs directive. The cases, previously handled by Manipur Police, involve incidents that have caused many fatalities and unrest. One case is about a gun battle in Jiribam between CRPF and Kuki militants, which resulted in the deaths of 10 militants. Another involves the abduction and subsequent killing of six people in Jiribam. The NIA has registered separate cases for these incidents as part of its probe into the escalating violence in the state.
