Amravati: A violent altercation occurred at a rally held by BJP leader and former MP Navneet Rana in Khallar village, Amravati, Maharashtra, last night. Video from the rally shows Rana, surrounded by her supporters, as a group of people begins throwing chairs at the crowd. At one point, she appears to approach the mob and urged them to disperse. The situation escalates when chairs are hurled toward her. Her security team can be seen protecting her from the onslaught.

Rana demands quick arrests

After the incident, the former MP visited the police station and demanded swift arrests of the culprits. Police have launched a probe into the attack, with no suspects identified yet. Extra forces have been deployed in the area. “We were holding a peaceful campaign in Khallar when some people began making inappropriate gestures and hooting during my speech. I refrained from reacting, but then they began chanting Allahu Akbar. When my supporters asked them to stop using offensive language, they resorted to throwing chairs,” Rana told the media.

She further added, “While I was accompanied by journalists, the aggression was solely directed at me. They threw chairs and verbally abused me. Some of my party members were injured, as seen in the video. My six security personnel protected me during the chaos. I was spat at, but it landed on a security guard’s uniform. We have filed a complaint and if arrests are not made soon, the entire Hindu community in Amravati will gather here.”

Police confirm dispute between two groups

Kiran Wankhade, the Inspector of Amravati Rural’s crime branch, said that Rana was in Khallar for campaigning ahead of the Maharashtra state elections on November 20, in support of BJP candidate Ramesh Bundile from Daryapur. “A disagreement between two groups occurred during the rally. Based on Navneet Rana’s complaint, we have filed a case and the situation is now under control. A police checkpoint has been set up in the village. We urge citizens to avoid believing in any rumours. The investigation is ongoing,” Wankhade said.
