New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday unveiled development projects worth Rs 6,640 crore on the occasion of the commencement of the 150th Birth Anniversary Year celebration of Bhagwan Birsa Munda in Jamui. During the event, the PM also released a commemorative coin and postage stamp.

While addressing the public gathering here, PM Modi said there were many tribal leaders who played crucial role in the freedom struggle, but previous governments at Centre never worked for the betterment of tribal people.

“Our top priority is ‘padhai, kamai and dawai’ for tribal people. We created separate ministry for tribals’ welfare and increased budget from Rs 25,000 crore to Rs 1.25 lakh crore,” said PM Modi while highlighting his government’s effort towards the upliftment of the tribal community in the country.

PM Modi unveils development projects worth Rs 6,640 cr

PM Modi also unveiled development projects worth Rs 6,640 crore. These projects focus on improving infrastructure, healthcare, education, and livelihood generation in tribal regions. PM Modi was visiting Jamui on the occasion of  150th birth anniversary of Birsa Munda. The day is celebrated as ‘Janjatiya Gaurav Divas’.

The prime minister also issued a commemorative stamp and a coin in the honour of Birsa Munda, who is revered by tribal in Jharkhand. PM Modi also virtually took part in ‘Grih Pravesh’ of 11,000 housding units built for tribals in Jharkhand under Prime Minister Janjati Adivasi Nyaya Maha Abhiyan (PM-JANMAN).

PM launches mobile medical units

During the event, Prime Minister also unveiled 23 mobile medical units (MMUs) under  PM-JANMAN scheme. Along with this, 30 other MMUs were launched Dharti Aaba Janjatiya Gram Utkarsh Abhiyan (DAJGUA) to make healthcare facilities more accessible in remote tribal belts.
