RG Kar rape-murder trial: Three more witnesses testifies before Kolkata court

Kolkata: Three doctors testified in a special court on Thursday (November 14) in the case of rape and murder of an on-duty woman doctor at the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital on August 9.

Sanjay Roy, who is the prime accused in the rape and murder of the 31-year-old woman doctor, was produced before the court of additional district and sessions judge Anirban Das under heavy police arrangements for the consecutive fourth day.

The trial proceedings of the case, which is being held in-camera and on day-to-day basis, began on Monday.

A senior doctor and two medics deposed before the court court on Thursday during the trial proceedings, news agency PTI reported.

A total of nine witnesses have been examined in the case till Thursday

Two witnesses were examined on Monday, two witnesses were examined on Tuesday, two witnesses were examined on Wednesday and three witnesses were examined in the court on Thursday and thus, a total of nine witnesses have been examined so far in the case till Thursday.

Sealdah trial court had on November 4 framed charges against Sanjay Roy

Charges were framed by the Sealdah trial court against prime accused Roy, who was arrested by the Kolkata Police in the case the following day of the incident on August 10, on November 4.

Roy has been booked in the case under section 64 of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS) Section 66 (which pertains to punishment for causing death or resulting in a persistent vegetative state) and 103 (punishment for murder).

CBI earlier filed a chargesheet against Sanjay Roy

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), which took over the investigation of the case from the Kolkata Police on the orders of the Calcutta High Court, had earlier filed a chargesheet before the court against Roy. The investigating agency has relied on various oral and documentary evidence and forensic and scientific reports to establish that he was the sole perpetrator of rape and murder of the on-duty woman doctor at the seminar room of the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital on August 9.
