DRDO conducts successful maiden flight-test of long range land attack cruise missile

New Delhi: The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has conducted a maiden flight-test of Long Range Land Attack Cruise Missile (LRLACM) on Tuesday. The test was conducted from a mobile articulated launcher from the Integrated Test Range in Chandipur off the coast of Odisha, the defence ministry said in a statement.

According to the DRDO, all sub-systems of the missile performed as per expectation during the test. The flight-test met the primary mission objectives. During its flight, the performance of the missile was closely monitored with the help of multiple range sensors like Radar, Electro Optical Tracking System and telemetry deployed at different locations to ensure complete coverage of the flight path.

The DRDO said the projectile followed the desired path using way point navigation and demonstrated its capability to perform various manoeuvres. The LRLACM is also equipped with advanced avionics and software to ensure better and reliable performance.

The missile has been developed by the Aeronautical Development Establishment in Bengaluru along with contribution from other DRDO laboratories and Indian industries.

Bharat Dynamics Limited (Hyderabad) and Bharat Electronics Limited (Bengaluru) are the two Development-Cum-Production-Partners for the missile development.

The test was observed by senior DRDO scientists along with the representatives from the three armed services, who will ultimately use the system.
