Chennai: The iconic Annamalaiyar Temple in Tiruvannamalai is gearing up for the prestigious Karthigai Deepam festival, scheduled from December 1 to 17. Tiruvannamalai District Collector Bhaskara Pandian announced that necessary arrangements are underway to accommodate the expected 35 lakh devotees.

A study meeting was held at the temple, where Collector Pandian reviewed preparations. He assured that basic facilities will be provided to devotees, with cooperation from various departments. Key events include flag hoisting on December 4, Maha Therottam on December 10, and Bharani Deepam and Maha Deepam on December 13.

To manage the large crowd, the administration has set limits on devotees allowed inside the temple: 7,500 for Bharani Deepam, 11,500 for Maha Deepam, and 2,000 for darshan of Maha Deepam on the hill. Permits will be issued after physical examination, with additional online permits available (500 for Bharani Deepam and 1,100 for Maha Deepam).

Medical and security arrangements are also in place. Three medical camps with cardiologists will be set up, along with 85 medical teams. Guards will be deployed strategically, and electricity will be cut off on Mada Road during the Annamalaiyar chariot race and Maha Therottam for safety.

To ensure a smooth experience, Collector Pandian warned against overcharging in hostels and autos, threatening strict action. The temple administration and district officials are working together to make this year’s Karthigai Deepam festival a success.
