Chennai: The Chennai’s Victory School in Thiruvotriyur has been temporarily shut down after nine students fainted due to a suspected gas leak on its reopening day. The incident occurred just 10 days after 35 students experienced similar symptoms, prompting a temporary closure.

Despite parents’ initial opposition to reopening, citing unresolved safety concerns, some students attended classes. However, they soon began vomiting, fainting, and experiencing breathing difficulties. Panicked parents rushed their children to a nearby private hospital.

Last month’s incident on the 25th had already raised concerns. DMK MP Kalanithi Veerasamy and a disaster relief team inspected the school, leading to a 10-day holiday. Education department officials have now inspected the school again and ordered its temporary closure until the source of the gas leak is identified.

School authorities face mounting pressure to address the recurring issue. Parents demand answers about the cause of the gas leak and measures taken to prevent future incidents. The temporary closure aims to ensure student safety while investigations continue.

The repeated gas leaks have sparked worry among parents and the community. Authorities must now work to identify the root cause and implement effective solutions to prevent such incidents in the future.
