Mumbai: Tata group-owned Air India plans to fly its Airbus A350 jets on the non-stop flight route between Delhi and Newark soon. The airline made the announcement while sharing information on the deployment of an A350 jet on the Delhi New York route effective November 1, 2o24.
The Airbus A350 jet will fly on ultra-long-haul routes, the salt to telecom conglomerate said on Friday. This follows Air India’s decision to cancel around 60 flights to multiple destinations in the US during November 15-December 31, 2024 citing non-availability of widebody jets. Some of these jets were under maintenance and facing supply chain issues, said the Tata group air carrier.
Air India long-haul plans for A350 jets
Air India said it plans to fly the A350s between Delhi and Newark’s Liberty International Airport starting January 2, 2025. The airline’s fleet currently includes 6 Airbus A350-900s. The Delhi-New York route is a long-haul flight since it exceeds 16 hours” travel duration. The Delhi-London route, which is considered medium long haul, also has A350 jets deployed by Air India since September 2024. Air India which inducted the Airbus aircraft into its fleet in December 2023. The airline began flying the A350 on domestic routes initially, before revealing its usage for ling-haul routes.

Air India has received positive feedback from guests on board its new Airbus A350s, said Air India MD and CEO Campbell Wilson. “New customer experience has been exceptionally positive,” he added while discussing the A350s’ launch on the Delhi-London Heathrow route.
Air India was excited to deploy the new A350s on the New York route, added Wilson. The airline also plans to retrofit its existing jets, he said, adding that the complete revamp is likely to be finished in 2025.
