“People residing in the fishing hamlets for the past 50 plus years must get a satisfactory solution. Parties with vested interests are attempting to turn the land issue into a communal one,” said Panakkad Thangal.

Meanwhile opposition leader VD Satheeshan said that the land in Munambam is not Waqf property and the 610 families in Munambam should be served justice.

“It has nothing to do with Waqf land. The issue in Munambam is seperate and the people there had already brought the land and have been paying tax. Hence there is no question of the land being forcefully taken away”, said VD Satheeshan to the media.

IUML leader PK Kunhalikutty said the state should consider an out-of-court settlement as court proceedings would take long to reach a solution.

All organizations offered their full support in an attempt by the state to resolve the matter. Besides senior IUML leaders, representatives of Muslim organisations like Samastha, Kerala Muslim Jamaat, KNM, Jamaat-e-Islami, KNM Markazudawa, Wisdom Islamic Organization, Kerala Jamiyyathul Ulama, MES and MSS participated in the meeting.
