Mumbai: With just a few days left for the Assembly Elections in Maharashtra, Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Arvind Sawant stirred up a controversy over his remarks on Shiv Sena (Shinde) candidate Shaina NC, who is contesting from Mumba Devi constituency. Sawant is an MP from South Mumbai, under which the constituency falls. He had gone to seek votes for Amin Patel, during which he made the remarks.
Upset with the remarks, Shaina NC filed a complaint against Sawant at the Nagpada police station of Mumbai. Speaking to TV9 Network, the Shiv Sena (Shinde) candidate also demanded an apology from Sawant. She took to X and wrote, “I am a woman, not a good.” With the matter reaching the police station, the BJP led alliance is trying to push back the Opposition issue, as it is related to the dignity of the women.
Why Opposition leaders are silent? Shaina NC
Slamming the Opposition, Shaina also asked why Opposition leaders in the state like Uddhav Thackeray, Nana Patole, Sharad Pawar, Sanjay Raut, and Priyanka Chaturvedi were silent on the issue and nobody was speaking on the matter. However, Sawant clarified that the BJP had twisted his statement. Sawant added he only meant to say that Amin Patel was a local candidate in the constituency, while Shaina NC was an ‘outsider’, who would ‘not be accepted in the constituency’.
‘Statement shows mentality’
Hitting back at him, Shaina NC said that Sawant’s statement showed his ‘mentality’ and that people would ‘teach’ him and his party a ‘lesson.’ Speaking to news agency ANI, she said, “Does he think every woman of Mumbadevi is a ‘maal’? You don’t respect a woman. You use such words for a capable woman who is in politics. Now you will be ‘behaal’ (defeated). You (Sawant) will have to apologise at Nagpada police station.” The state will gon on polls on November 20, while results will be announced on November 23.
