Mumbai: Noting heavy crowding in the railway stations due to the festive season, the Western, Central and Northern Railway have temporarily halted ticket sales at 16 key stations. The step comes after the incident of stampede at Mumbai station where 9 people were injured while boarding a train bound for Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh.
In the Western and Central Railway region, the stations where the sale of tickets is restricted are Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus, Dadar, Kurla, LTT, Thane, Kalyan, Pune and Nagpur stations. The ticket sale restriction will be effective till November 9, one day after the Chhath Puja, which is from November 5 to 8.
Many special trains announced
Apart from this for the convenience of passengers during Diwali and Chhath, in addition to the regular trains, the Western Railway and Central Railway will run special trains in many regions.

Stampede incident
The decision comes after 9 people were injured in a stampede that broke out on platform number 1 at Bandra Terminus on October 27. The incident happened while a large crowd rushed to board on train 22921 Bandra-Gorakhpur Antyodaya Express. According to the statement of Western Railway, the incident took place at 2:45 when the train was moving slowly towards the platform and only two people were injured in the incident. “There were many passengers who tried to board the moving train where two passengers fell and got injured,” it added.
The Western Railway also informed in social media that for the safe and convenient journey of the passengers the Railway Protection Force personnel at Bandra Terminus station are vigilantly managing the crowd in the special trains.
