Honda has recalled 92,672 cars in India over a faulty fuel pump. The recall includes Brio, Jazz, WR-V, Amaze and the City so basically all the the vehicles that Honda makes. The fault has been found on vehicles manufactured between August 2017 and June 2018.

The fuel pump produced during this time period could have a defective impeller which could cause its complete failure and either the engine will stop running or not start due to fuel starvation which could lead to the cars being stranded. The problem affects 32,873 units of the City, 4,368 units of the BR-V, 16,744 units of the Jazz, 18,851 units of the Amaze, 14, 298 units of the WR-V and 3,317 units of the Brio. This also includes another 2,404 units of cars which had their fuel pumps replaced.

The recall will happen in a phased manner and will start from November 5, 2024. Honda will start notifying customers whose cars have been affected and replace the fuel pump free of cost. Customers can also check if their cars has been  affected on their official website here by looking at their VIN number. There have been no accidents or injuries reported due to the this fault and Honda will notify each customer individually about this issue. The repair is not a simple one as a fuel pump replacement takes quite a bit of time but it will all be done on Honda’s expense.

The fuel pump issue is isolated to a specific time production of the cars which featured the i-VTEC and i-DTEC engines. This means that the newer versions were improved and this recall did not affect any of the more premium cars like the Civic and the CRV that Honda used to sell.
