Chennai: Former AIADMK minister RB Udhayakumar has downplayed the impact of Vijay’s Tamizhaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) on AIADMK’s fortunes, saying it won’t affect the party “even a little bit.” Instead, Udayakumar claimed the ruling DMK will bear the brunt. Udhayakumar’s comments come after Vijay’s inaugural rally, where he positioned his party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), as a challenger to the DMK-AIADMK stronghold.

Speaking to reporters in Madurai, Udayakumar praised Vijay’s conference as a “great start” and noted the youth’s voluntary participation indicates their rejection of DMK. He cited AIADMK’s 32-year reign out of 52 years and its permanent vote bank.

“Impact of Vijay’s TVK on the AIADMK is negligible”

“The impact of Vijay’s TVK on the AIADMK is negligible, while it will significantly affect the ruling DMK. The policies of TVK are commendable, and the references made to MGR are also praiseworthy,” RB Udhayakumar said.

He attributed the success of Vijay’s conference to Tamil Nadu’s opposition to succession politics. He also criticized the title awarded to Udhayanidhi Stalin, sparking youth fury. Udhayakumar welcomed TVK’s policies, emphasizing AIADMK’s strong track record.

This development comes as Vijay’s entry into politics generates interest, with analysts divided on his potential impact. While his superstar status may influence voters, others argue that a clear ideology is necessary for success in Tamil politics.
