Karnataka woman kills husband, burns body for Rs 8 crore fortune

Bengaluru: In a chilling tale of greed and betrayal, a woman in Karnataka has been arrested for allegedly murdering her husband and then burning his body to cover her tracks. The police investigation has revealed that the accused, Niharika, the man’s second wife, allegedly orchestrated the crime to seize control of his Rs 8 crore worth of assets.

The gruesome discovery of an unidentified body in a Kodagu coffee plantation on October 8th set the police on a path that would crack a web of deceit and murder. After the body was discovered, the department formed four special teams of 16 officers who further investigated the case. Niharika was arrested and later confessed to the crime during police interrogation.

Niharika, along with her associates Dr Nikhil, a veterinarian, and Ankur Rana, a resident of Bengaluru, were apprehended after a thorough investigation that involved reviewing CCTV footage from hundreds of cameras and tracking vehicles that had moved through the area around the time of the crime.

Police investigations revealed a chilling pattern of events. Niharika allegedly lured her husband, Ramesh, to Uppal, where she strangled him to death. She and her accomplices then transported the body to Kodagu, where they left it in a coffee plantation and set it ablaze, according to the Indian Express report.

Once a bright and ambitious young woman, who graduated with an engineering degree, Niharika committed the crime out of greed, police told Indian Express. However, after a series of unfortunate events, including a financial scam that led to her arrest in Haryana, her life took a dark turn.

After coming out of jail she married Ramesh in 2018. He supported her extravagant lifestyle, but it was not enough. The tensions between the couple escalated when Ramesh refused to give her Rs 8 crore, ultimately fueling Niharika’s alleged murderous intent, the police said.
