Bengaluru: The Bengaluru City Police has been running a drive against illegal advertising, selling and delivering of non-green crackers using online platforms. The directions in this regard were given by Karnataka State Pollution Control Board (KSPCB) to the Bengaluru Police.

Under this, the Bandepalya Police have filed an FIR against the owner of a shop named Shivananda Stores for selling illegal non-green firecrackers through an online platform. The shop owner was selling the crackers by publishing advertisement regarding availability of all categories of crackers which also included non-green firecrackers. A case was registered against him under section 287 for negligent conduct in relation to fire or combustible materials of the Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, and the Explosives Act, 1884.

Only green crackers allowed between 8 to 10 pm

According to the guidelines released by KSPCB only green crackers are allowed to be burst between 8 pm and 10 pm from October 31 to November 2. There is a complete ban on manufacturing, stocking and sale of any non-green firecracker in the state and violation of this rule is punishable. Though the administration received the complaint that there are many sellers who are using online platforms for advertisement and sale of non-green firecrackers.

Instructions to police by CM

In a virtual meeting, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah directed all Deputy Commissioners and Superintendents of Police to allow bursting of only green crackers during Deepavali. He asked them to be completely vigilant during checks on storage, transportation, loading and unloading of firecrackers. The City Commissioner B Dayananda instructed the local police of different areas of the city to strictly monitor shops and manufacturing sites regarding sale of non-green crackers. Additionally, Bengaluru City Cyber Crime Police has also warned the sellers against advertisement and sale of illegal firecrackers through online platforms.
