OpenAI To Launch Next Big AI Project Orion This December? Sam Altman Has Other Plans

OpenAI has always been at the front end when it comes to bringing the latest tech to the AI world. However, since the arrival of the GPT-4 version, the company has only updated it with two mini models — GT-4o and OpenAI o1 as new upgrades to the existing ones. As far as I remember, one of the most exciting announcements by OpenAI has been the introduction of Sora, the text-to-video-making tool. However, it is still a long way to reach all of us. Now, some reports suggest that the AI giant is all set to launch a big AI update, Orion, before the end of this year.

As per a report by The Verge, the Orion AI model is tipped to be widely released this December. The name emerged from a previous post by Sam Altman in September which reads, “I love being home in the midwest. the night sky is so beautiful. excited for the winter constellations to rise soon; they are so great.” When you will ask ChatGPT about this post’s meaning, then it will come up with only one word — Orion!

To a surprise, as soon as the news of the new AI model by OpenAI emerged, Sam Altman came forward to clear the rumours. “Fake news out of control,” OpenAI’s CEO Sam Altman replied to the scoop post by The Verge’s journalist. Further clarifying his claims to call the new AI model fake news, he replied in the comment section to an X user, “Don’t worry, plenty of great stuff coming your way, just offends me how media is willing to print random fantasy (sic).”

While nothing is official yet, Sam Altman’s comment suggests that OpenAI is planning to bring something exciting. Will that finally be the GPT-5 version, the successor to the GPT-4 which currently powers the ChatGPT? Or, is there something else that will surprise the users with its capabilities just like Sora? We will have to wait for the official details.

Whether The Verge’s tip about the new AI model Orion is true or not, there is a high possibility that the AI giant may bring something exciting soon, as hinted by Sam Altman’s post on X.
