iPhone 16 Banned In Indonesia; “Illegal” To Use – Here’s Why

In a shocking development, the latest flagship of Apple, the iPhone 16 has been banned in Indonesia! It is banned from being sold or used in the country, Indonesia’s Industry Minister Gumiwang Kartasasmita announced. He suggested consumers refrain from buying and using the iPhone 16 even from abroad. Not just that, if anyone is found to be using it, it will be termed as “illegal.” “Report to us,” Minister Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita mentioned. Why using the iPhone 16 has suddenly been declared as an illegal activity in Indonesia?

iPhone 16 Is “Illegal” In Indonesia: Here’s Why

The ban on the latest iPhone 16 is due to Apple’s failure to comply with investment commitments in Indonesia. As per a report by South China Morning Post, Apple is yet to renew its domestic component level (TKDN) licence which is crucial to operating within the country legally. It needs also needs International Mobile Equipment Identity (IMEI) certification.

The tech giant can’t sell the iPhone 16 in Indonesia as Apple is yet to fulfil the TKDN certification process. As per the report, iPhone-maker has invested 1.48 trillion rupiah (US$95 million) in Indonesia instead of the total commitment of 1.71 trillion rupiah. To continue selling the iPhone 16 in the country, Apple needs to meet the 40 per cent TKDN value requirement.
