New Delhi: Indian opener Yashasvi Jaiswal has continued to achieve milestones one after another. The young sensational player has now completed 1000 runs in Test cricket in the 2024 calendar year. He achieved the feat during the Day 2 of the ongoing second Test at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune.
Resuming his innings from the overnight of 6, Jaiswal carried his composure with exemplary timing, hitting one boundary each against the likes of Tim Southee, Mitchell Santner, and Ajaz Patel. The one hit off Ajaz’s bowling past the extra covers was the moment for the youngster to complete 1000 runs in this year.
The 22-year-old also joined some of the legendary players of the game to achieve 1000 Test runs in a calendar year before the age of 23. The likes of Sir Garfield Sobers (1193 in 1958), Graeme Smith (1198 in 2003), AB de Villiers (1008 in 2005), and Sir Alastair Cook (1013 in 2006).
Jaiswal was later dismissed on 30 after attempting to defend on the front foot and ended up getting a leading edge which was brilliantly pouched by Daryl Mitchell at the first slip.
Jaiswal has also joined England batting ace Joe Root as the only other batter to amass 1000 runs in the red-ball format in the last 10 months. The England No.4 batters is on the top of the scoring charts with 1305 runs from 24 innings at an average of 59.31 with the help of five centuries and four fifties. The latter is currently playing against Pakistan in the third Test match in Rawalpindi.

Yashasvi Jaiswal started the year on an appalling note, recording a duck against South Africa in the Cape Town Test. The southpaw had a terrific run during the five-match Test series against England at home. He astoundingly amassed 712 runs in nine innings at an average of 89 with the help of two double-centuries. The youngster made 189 runs in four innings against Bangladesh recently en route to completing 1000 Test runs in just 16 innings.
