Chennai: A major controversy has erupted after the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam’s (DMK) Overseas Indians Wing posted a map of India that appeared to cede parts of Jammu and Kashmir to Pakistan. The post was quickly taken down and replaced with a corrected map of India, but not before sparking widespread outrage on social media.

The Tamil Nadu unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) swiftly condemned the DMK’s actions, calling it a “blatant betrayal of India’s sovereignty” and accusing the party of having “loyalty to forces intent on seeing India destroyed”. BJP State Secretary Dr. S.G. Surya severely criticized the DMK, pointing out that this was not the first instance of the party misrepresenting India’s map.

In 2020, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin’s son Udayanidhi Stalin made a similar mistake in a video, which was later deleted after complaints were filed with the police. Dr. Surya questioned whether the DMK’s actions were a mere coincidence or a reflection of their ideology.

The BJP has demanded an unconditional apology from DMK chief M.K. Stalin, with Tamil Nadu BJP tweeting that the DMK stands exposed as a loyal ally of India’s enemies. The party alleged that the DMK’s actions were part of a larger pattern of sowing unrest and deepening the North-South divide.

BJP functionaries have commented on the issue, with one saying, “First dream is to abolish Sanatana, second dream is to abolish India? Has DMK already given half of Jammu and Kashmir to Pakistan?” Another commenter questioned whether the DMK’s NRI wing had ties to Pakistan.

The controversy highlights the ongoing tensions between the DMK and BJP in Tamil Nadu, with the BJP seeking to capitalize on the issue to gain traction in the state. The DMK has yet to respond to the allegations.
