Bengaluru: An Assistant Executive Engineer (AEE) with the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has filed a police complaint against a local property owner, alleging negligence that contributed to severe flooding in Kengeri Ward 31 during recent rains. The Hindu reported. Guruprasad M.B., the AEE for the Kengeri sub-division, has accused Guttale Gowda, owner of a property on survey no. 16 in Bandematha, Mini Gandhinagar, of causing damage to public property.

Notably, the local police have charged Gowda under Section 324 (5) for mischief. In his complaint, Guruprasad detailed how heavy rainfall led to part of Gowda’s compound collapsing onto the roadway, which in turn damaged both the road and a storm-water drain. This incident resulted in significant flooding in the area, affecting multiple parked vehicles.

Show cause notice issued earlier in August

This complaint follows a similar incident in August, during which officials issued a show-cause notice to Gowda and requested property documents. However, Gowda reportedly did not respond to the notice. According to Guruprasad, the property lacks adequate drainage facilities, worsening the flooding situation. The AEE has called on the police to take decisive legal action against Gowda, highlighting the need for accountability to prevent further incidents.

Heavy rains leads to severe waterlogging in Bengaluru

It is worth mentioning that the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a ‘Yellow Alert’ for Bengaluru, urging residents to brace for heavy rain and thunderstorms that are expected to last until October 25. Over the past week, the city’s IT hub has experienced relentless downpours, causing major disruptions, widespread waterlogging, and significant traffic jams across various neighborhoods.
