Triumph has revealed the new Tiger Sport 800 which will most likely replace the current 850 Sport. It gets a new engine, new features and similar styling to the Tiger Sport 660. Here is what you need to know.
The new Triumph Sport 800 is all new and is more road focused than before. It features a completely new engine which is a 798cc three-cylinder liquid-cooled engine which produces 115 bhp and 84 Nm of torque. It is paired to a 6-speed gearbox which also gets a slipper clutch. There is also a standard bi-directional quickshifter.
The bike features 17-inch wheels on both ends unlike the Tiger 850 Sport which featured a 19-inch wheel upfront and a 17-inch wheel out the back. It rides on Michelin Road 5 tyres measuring 120/70/R17 at the front and 180/55/R17 at the rear. There are 41 mm upside-down-forks with compression and preload adjustability up front and a mono-shock at the rear which can be adjusted for rebound and preload with remote adjustment, both of which are supplied from Showa.
The Tiger Sport 800 features a dual disc setup at the front with 310 mm discs and 4-piston calipers. The rear has a single piston caliper with 255 mm disc. It also features three riding modes namely – Rain, Road and Sport and also gets features like traction control, dual channel ABS, and cruise control.
Technology wise, it features a similar TFT digital display to the Tiger Sport 660 and the recently launched Daytona 660. Its not as extensive as some other brands on the market but it offers ample information. Prices for the Triumph Tiger Sport 800 have not been announced yet but we expect it to be on par with the bike it replaces, the Tiger 850 Sport which was priced from Rs 11.95 lakh (ex-showroom). It will compete against the likes of the BMW F900XR, Kawssaki Versys 1100 and Ducati Multistrada V2.
