Madurai: A string of daring crimes has cast a shadow over the Diwali celebrations in Madurai, Tamil Nadu. A woman, Manjula, was targeted by two mysterious men on an expensive R15 two-wheeler, who snatched her three-quarter pound gold chain, pulling her onto the road before fleeing at high speed.
The incident occurred when Manjula and her husband, Dwarkanath, returned home from shopping in Mattuthavani and Keezavasal areas in the city ahead of the Deepavali festival.

The thieves struck when the couple stopped their two-wheeler outside their house. CCTV footage shows the dramatic chain snatching, with the chain breaking into two parts, one portion remaining around Manjula’s neck.
In another incident, two minors were caught on CCTV entering a house on Bandadi 7th Street and stealing Rs 3,000 while the homeowners watched TV in the living room.
The South Gate police have registered cases and are investigating both incidents.
