Goesan: A man from Canada has set a new world record by walking 38 dogs at once, breaking the previous record of 36. Mitchell Rudy broke the world record in Goesan, Chungcheongbuk-do, South Korea, on 5 September, with the support of Canadian charity BONK and Korean K9 Rescue (KK9R).

All the dogs involved were rescues from local shelters and had been put up for adoption by KK9R. Mitchell, a key member of BONK, was thrilled to participate and spend time with so many dogs.

He explained that the dogs came from difficult backgrounds, including puppy mills and former meat harvesting areas. They had been rescued by KK9R and other organisations within Korea. Mitchell emphasised that rescue dogs often face stigma, but they are loving animals that deserve good homes.

In January, South Korea passed a law banning the consumption of dog meat, a significant step for animal welfare in the country.

Gina Kim-Sadiku, executive director of KK9R, said that they had limited time to train for the event, but “since our dogs had a strong foundation, we were able to really accomplish a lot in a short amount of time.”

Mitchell said the record-breaking walk was inspired by the desire to get as many dogs adopted as possible in a short period of time. The event aimed to highlight the dogs’ worth, showing that they are great pets who deserve loving homes.

To officially break the record, Mitchell had to walk the 38 dogs for 1 kilometre, ensuring they stayed on their leads throughout the entire attempt.
