Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu restarted the Capital Region Development Authority (CRDA) project works in Amaravati on Saturday.
The works at Rayapudi village in the capital region were restarted after a gap of five years, as the previous YSRCP government abandoned Naidu’s ‘dream project’.
Speaking at the event, CM Chandrababu Naidu said, “Amaravati is in the center of the state. I have said everywhere that it should be one capital for one state. We will make Visakhapatnam the financial capital.” Naidu said that the High Court bench and industries will be set up in Kurnool.
Addressing obstacles for the project, he said, “We are all gathered here to rewrite history. During the partition of the state we faced many difficulties. We have the credit of shaping the city of Cyberabad in united Andhra Pradesh. With foresight, we had laid 8 rows of roads in Cyberabad. Everyone questioned me why there was a need of 5,000 acres for Shamshabad airport. Obstacles to development are everywhere. We convinced the farmers of Amaravati and collected the land. All of you have given lands for the benefit of capital and society. We have collected 54 thousand acres for Amaravati. Women farmers fought against the previous government.”
CRDA will oversee the projects, valued at Rs 160 crores, including a 7-story office complex. However, between 2019 and 2024, former Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy promoted the idea of three capital cities and kept the development of Amaravati on the back-burner.
With Naidu becoming the CM of the bifurcated state for the second time, Amaravati capital project seems to have received a shot in the arm. On October 16, the decision to restart the works was taken during a CRDA authority meeting, said an official statement on Saturday.
