CM Stalin slams Governor Ravi over omission of ‘Dravidian’ from Tamil Nadu anthem

Chennai: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin has strongly condemned the omission of “Dravidian Nalthirunadu” from the Tamil Nadu state anthem known as Tamil Thai Vazhthu ( greeting) sung at the Doordarshan Tamil divison (DD Tamil) Golden Festival and Hindi Month closing ceremony. Governor RN Ravi’s participation in the event has sparked outrage, with Stalin questioning whether the Governor is “an Aryan” and accusing him of acting against the law of Tamil Nadu.

The ceremony, held at the Chennai Television station, saw the Tamil Thai greeting sung without the crucial line, causing confusion among those in attendance. Soon after the incident, Stalin took to social media to express his discontent, stating that the Governor’s actions were insulting to the unity of the country and its diverse people.

Stalin emphasized that altering the Tamil Thai greeting is against Tamil Nadu law and demanded that the Union Government recall Governor RN Ravi for his deliberate insult to the state and its people. The Chief Minister questioned whether the Governor would dare to omit “Dravidian” from the national anthem, highlighting the sensitivity surrounding language and cultural identity in Tamil Nadu.

The incident has sparked heated debates about language, culture, and governance in Tamil Nadu, with many calling for the Governor’s removal.

Governor RN Ravi’s actions have been criticized by various political parties and social organizations, with many expressing solidarity with Stalin’s demands. The Union Government has yet to respond to the growing calls for the Governor’s recall.
