New Delhi: Indian pacer Mohammed Siraj is known to display his aggression on the field, particularly while he is bowling against the opposition. It was the routine thing for the Indian player during the second day of the first Test against New Zealand on Thursday played at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.
Siraj was seen igniting heated words against New Zealand opener Devon Conway, who led the visitors’ charge with the bat just after India stuttered to their lowest Test total on home soil – 46/10. Conway played some tremendous shots to give the Black Caps a flying start to their innings.
Just when Conway was getting into the groove, Siraj decided to confront him while the two played on the wicket. It started in the 15th over when Conway hit Siraj for a boundary, which irked the Indian bowler. In the following delivery, Conway defended the ball back to the bowler. After collecting the bowl, Siraj gave a regular but fiery stare to the New Zealand batter before uttering some words.
Conway remained calm when Siraj attempted to sledge him and just nodded his head wearing a smile on the face. There was something he did say but in a polite way. New Zealand lead by 134 runs at end of Day 2
New Zealand had a terrific start to their India tour after the pacers dictated the terms on the morning of Thursday. The Black Caps bowled out India for 46 riding on the brilliance of Matt Henry (5 for 14) and William O’Rourke (4 for 22).
Conway made 91 in New Zealand’s response, including a 67-run opening-stand with captain Tom Latham (15). The South African-born missed his fifth Test hundred after attempting to play a reverse sweep against Ravichandran Ashwin. Daryl Mitchell (14*) and Rachin Ravindran (22*) ensured the tourists didn’t lose any wickets further in the day with a lead of 134 runs
